This coin of 400 euros face value reproduces on the obverse an image of the work entitled “The Burial of the Sardine”, made by Francisco de Goya y Lucientes, which is kept in the Museo de la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, in Madrid. On the back is an image of the work entitled “Equestrian Portrait of Fernando VII”, by Francisco de Goya y Lucientes, which is kept in the Museo de la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, in Madrid.
In 2013, the Royal Spanish Mint began a multi-year series to publicize the treasures of the various Spanish museums. In this third series, we find works from the Museo Nacional del Prado and the Museo de la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, which are reproduced on the coins that make up this collection, with paintings by Goya, Rubens, Federico de Madrazo, Tintoretto, Arcimboldo and Diego Velázquez.
