2011 | Silver 925 thousandths | Spanish Province Capitals (2nd Emission) | Spain is Art

Reproduction of a coin in proof quality, presented in a triptych display wrapped in a strip with the encapsulated coin. The coin, with a limited circulation of 20,000 units, is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and a proof of purchase by the FNMT-RCM.
This coin of 5 euros face value, reproduces on the obverse the coat of arms and name of the Capital or Autonomous City, and on the reverse a monument or motif representing it.
In this case it reproduces the MALECÓN and CATEDRAL. Located on the bay of the same name and surrounded by the sea, Cadiz is the southernmost capital of Europe. Since its foundation by the Phoenicians around 1100 BC, the ancient Gadir was occupied by the Carthaginians, Romans, Visigoths and Muslims. Its strategic location, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, has shaped its history over the centuries. Today, the image of Cadiz from the sea, with its monumental Cathedral, brings us closer to this open and cosmopolitan city that saw the birth of the first Spanish Constitution in 1812.
