This coin of 5 euros face value, reproduces on the obverse the coat of arms and name of the Capital or Autonomous City, and on the reverse a monument or motif representing it.
In this case it reproduces the UNIVERSIDAD. The Universidad de Valladolid was one of the first universities founded in the world. Although there is different news about its creation, it was already a reality in the last quarter of the 13th century, enjoying the protection of the crown and, later, also of the Papacy. In the 16th century, the Universidad de Valladolid was declared the Major University of the Kingdom, together with the Universidad de Salamanca and the Universidad de Alcalá. Since then, the Universidad has marked the life of this city which was the birthplace of José Zorrilla, Jorge Guillén or Rosa Chacel, and also the last residence of Admiral Christopher Columbus.
